December 2010: Morelli Ice Cream join forces with Fegans Foodservice in the Greater Dublin area.

Morelli's Ice Cream is etched in Irish culinary history having being established in 1911.

Morelli's famous Italian Ice Cream is a name widely associated with the North Coast of Northern Ireland. Back in the early 1900's, a cone of Morelli's ice cream was a treat for holiday makers and as the family business prepares to celebrate its 100th Birthday, the legend is living on and its legacy has surpassed the wildest dreams of the hard-working Italian men who were responsible for bringing it to Irish shores all those years ago.

Originally from Casalattico, a village nestled high in the Abruzzi mountains of Italy, the Morelli family left to seek work elsewhere and settled both in Scotland and Ireland. Armed with a secret ice cream recipe, they quickly opened cafes in Coleraine, Strabane and Ballymena follwed by shops in the seaside towns of Portrush and Portstewart.

Morelli's ice cream is made using a unique combination of Italian ingredients and Irish Double Cream. Morelli's continually updates their ever-expanding flavour list to meet the demands of today's cosmopilitan consumer. The family is also a regular prize-winner at the prestigious National Ice Cream Competitions having secured the first prize Silver challenge Cup for Dairy Vanilla ice cream in 2009.

Today, the fourth and fifth generations of the MOrelli family are running and working in the business, and as the milestone of the centenary celebrations approaches, the family is looking forward to the next hundred years.

They do all the classic flavours such as Double Cream Vanilla and Belgian Chocolate Chip but they also have innovative ice-creams such as Rhubarb & Custard and Violet Crunch. For the health conscious amongst us. There is a sugar free alternative and a range of fat free sorbets. Pack sizes range from 4.5.lt to 150ml individual portion pots.

Fegans Cash and Carry was rebranded as Fegans Foodservice in November 2008. This is part of a comprehensive business strategy and branding review taken by the company to help maximise competitive advantages in the market place.

The main reason for the rebranding is that Fegans Foodservice is now a comprehensive 'one stop shop' for all catering and foodservice needs. The product range has being extended to include fruit & vegetables, as well as fresh meat, fish and cheese products. Fegans have entered strategic partnerships with various sector leaders in their respective fields. New partners include Dublin's oldest fruit and veg supplier, Condrens; Kish Fish, a leading fishmonger and renowed Dublin butcher, Ken McGivern.
