History
Fegans Cash and Carry was set up by James Fegan Snr in 1925. He started the company up as a small shop serving the local community. Over the coming 30 years, he acquired a few adjacent buildings in Chancery St. The main business during his tenure in charge was serving independent shops retail goods.
Liam Fegan took over from his father at a young age when his father became ill. Despite his age, he continued to grow the business. Witnessing the decline in independent retail stores, Liam set up the National Wholesale Grocers Association with a few independent Cash and Carrys in 1961. This was also a result of restaurants beginning to open up in Dublin as people began to eat out more and more.

With the proliferation of branded goods, they started the Homestead brand for the retail trade. Despite its importance outside Dublin, it was never as popular in Dublin.
The group advanced in size over the decades and now is called Stonehouse after the amalgamation with Superquinn.
James Fegan Jnr, grandson and namesake of the founder, entered into the family business in 1999. Following on in the family tradition and witnessing the Celtic Tiger, he saw the opportunity to further diversify the company product range and target customer. Their focus is now on selling to hotels, restaurants, take aways, coffee shops, clubs, pubs and schools. James sits on the board of Stonehouses food service committee.
James opened a new Food Service business in North
City Business Park, Finglas in November 2008. They offer a much wider range of frozen and chilled products and trade in fresh fruit and vegetables, meat and fish. They now offer a comprehensive range of food service goods and services to cater as a one-stop shop for all lines of entertainment.
So from James to James, the focus has changed from retail to food service but the core values of the company remain the same. Customer Service, Integrity and Creativity. |
